About the Position

The Legal Administration Officer supports the justice system by providing legal expertise and administrative support to the Department.

The role involves preparing legal documents, conducting legal research, assisting with court-related processes, and supporting programmes that promote justice, legal awareness, and compliance with legislation.

Successful candidates will also be required to sign a performance agreement as part of their employment conditions.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • LLB Degree or recognised four-year legal qualification
  • Valid driver’s licence

Knowledge Required

  • Criminal procedure and legal practice
  • Court rules including:

Key Responsibilities

The Legal Administration Officer will perform a variety of legal and administrative duties, including:

  • Drafting legal documents and providing legal advice to the Department and other organs of state
  • Providing support services to courts regarding quasi-judicial functions
  • Responding to petitions, complaints, and representations from civil society and government departments
  • Liaising with government departments, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and communities on crime prevention programmes
  • Preparing memoranda for the appointment of Commissioners of Oaths and Appraisers
  • Managing processes related to loss or damage of State property
  • Determining legal liability in relevant matters
  • Supporting the functioning of dedicated courts in the region
  • Facilitating implementation of legislation such as:
    • Victims Charter
    • Restorative Justice National Policy Framework
  • Planning and conducting community awareness campaigns on legislation administered by the Department
