Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the Internship programme of the Electoral Commission, a state institution established in terms of Chapter 9 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

POLITICAL PARTY FUNDING INTERNSHIP: Party Funding

Location: National Office (Centurion)

Duration: Twenty-Four Months (24) contract

Stipend: R9,104.00 per month

If you are looking to start your political party funding career in a pre-eminent election management body, then this might just be the role for you. We are currently looking for an intern to join the Party Funding team.

The Intern: Political Party Funding will contribute towards the efficient administration of political party funding activities in the organisation. The Intern reports to the Deputy Manager: Party Funding.

Key performance areas:

  •  A 24-month internship programme designed to provide recently qualified graduates with a unique opportunity to gain valuable skills in a supportive environment, learning on-the-job and work experience.
  • Exposure and training will be provided in the following areas where assistance is required:
  • Capturing of monthly journals.
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Verifying administration forms captured and submitted by political parties on the Online Party Funding System (OPFS).
  • Assisting in the verification of donation declarations captured and submitted by political parties and donors.
  • Assisting in the verification of annual financial statements (AFS) submitted by political parties.
  • Capturing records of donations on behalf of donors and contributors.
  • Providing support to political parties on the OPFS.
  • Assist with other initiatives in the division.
  • Assist with the following general administrative duties jobs from home
  • Minute taking, report writing, preparing presentations, routine enquiries.
  • Compiling, distributing documents/packages to stakeholders and such tasks as required by supervisor.
  • Maintaining the filing system for the section.
  • Maintaining incoming and outgoing correspondence of the section

Basic requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively, in writing
  • Computer literate, familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to learn to work with new software and applications.
  • It is preferred for the candidate to be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • The ideal candidate must have the following attributes
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team under supervision.
  • Good time management.
  • Confident in engaging with other role-players.
  • Proactive.
  • Dedication to the tasks at hand and willingness to work long hours, including weekends, when needed.
  • Service driven.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Must be 35 years of age or below
  • Must not have been an intern or worked in their field of study before to qualify for this programme.
  • Will be subjected to a risk assessment.
