Job Description
Job Purpose : Provide fire fighting services to operations and surrounding sites and perform required actions to mitigate and eliminate risks, where reasonably practicable, to maintain a safe working environment and the protection of people, property and assets.
Responsibilities:
- Liaise with shift managers in conducting mock emergency drills and training of fire teams, to reduce or eliminate risks of dangers to personnel and property
- Identify fire hazards, and introduce mitigating actions in conjunction with area managers, to maintain a safe working environment
- Provide rescue services (high angle, confined space, vehicle etc) to PetroSA and the surrounding community, to mitigate dangers and prevent loss of life and damage to property and assets
- Provide hazardous material response services, report for stand-by duty and act to stabilise emergency situations by providing primary healthcare services, to ensure that the lives and assets of people are protected, and the hazardous situations mitigated
- Prepare for the annual shutdown by conducting all necessary and delegated activities regarding fire prevention and intervention, to maintain an optimal working environment during shutdown
- Implement fire section policy, plans and procedures and the ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001, to attain compliance and achieve organisational goals
- Provide advice, guidance and consultative expertise on fire and related aspects to operational sites, to promote compliance and a safety responsive culture
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12/ Matric
- Fire Fighter 1 & 2 Certificate or equivalent
- Basic Ambulance Attendant Certificate
- Hazmat Awareness & Operations Certificate
- Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa(HPSCA)
Minimum Experience:
- 1 – 3 years in an Industrial or Municipal Fire environment
- Knowledge & Competencies:
- Incident Investigation policy and procedure
- South African Legislation relating to SHEQ (e.g. Mine Health and Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act etc)
- Fire policy and procedures
