Cleaners play a vital role in ensuring hospitals remain clean, safe and compliant with infection prevention and control standards. Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout wards, offices, patient areas and hospital grounds while supporting the overall wellbeing of patients, visitors and healthcare workers.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 10 or Grade 12 qualification.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Clean floors, walls, ceilings, windows, doors and furniture.
  • Maintain patient wards, offices and waiting areas.
  • Clean hospital beds, lockers, curtains and blinds.
  • Keep entrances, corridors and outside areas clean and litter-free.
  • Dispose of general and medical waste according to hospital policies.
  • Clean refrigerators, microwaves and kitchen facilities.
  • Wash dishes, cups and utensils used by patients.
  • Safely use cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Respond immediately to spills to prevent accidents.
  • Refill soap dispensers, toilet paper, air fresheners and other consumables.
  • Collect patient meals and beverages from designated collection points.
  • Prepare tea according to approved hospital schedules.
  • Receive, pack and organise clean linen.
  • Complete daily cleaning records and attendance registers.
  • Report maintenance problems, damaged equipment and safety hazards.
  • Follow infection prevention and occupational health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Perform additional lawful duties assigned by supervisors.
