Job Overview
is recruiting a highly skilled Clerk of Works (X1) within its Bulk Water Services – Operations division. The role is based at Rietvlei in Glenvista and is critical in ensuring that all construction and infrastructure projects meet strict engineering, safety, and quality standards.
The successful candidate will serve as the on-site representative of the client, ensuring that contractors comply with approved drawings, engineering specifications, construction methodologies, and South African building regulations.
This role is ideal for experienced construction inspectors, site supervisors, or civil engineering professionals who have strong attention to detail and quality assurance expertise.
Key Responsibilities (Expanded)
Construction Monitoring & Quality Assurance
- Inspect all construction activities to ensure compliance with approved project specifications
- Verify workmanship quality across civil engineering structures and installations
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits
- Monitor contractor performance against project timelines and deliverables
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC standards throughout the project lifecycle
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed daily site diaries and inspection logs
- Prepare progress reports for engineers and project managers
- Document defects, deviations, and corrective actions required
- Ensure proper record keeping for compliance and audit purposes
Technical Compliance
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction plans
- Ensure compliance with South African construction standards (SANS and related regulations)
- Verify materials delivered to site meet required specifications
- Identify risks and non-conformance issues early in the project cycle
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with civil engineers, architects, contractors, and project teams
- Attend site meetings and technical briefings
- Communicate site issues clearly and timeously
- Assist in resolving construction disputes and technical challenges
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations
- Monitor safe construction practices on site
- Report unsafe working conditions and enforce corrective actions
Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma or Certificate in:
- Civil Engineering
- Building Construction
- Construction Management
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction inspection, site supervision, or QA/QC
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and structural principles
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualification
- Registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) or relevant professional body
- Experience in bulk water infrastructure or large-scale civil projects
Technical Knowledge Required
- Civil engineering principles and construction methodology
- Quality assurance and quality control systems (QA/QC)
- South African construction standards (SANS regulations)
- Site inspection and testing procedures
