Job Overview

A Port Worker position is available within terminal operations in Port Elizabeth. The role involves manual labour support to ensure safe, clean, and efficient cargo handling operations within the port environment, in line with standard operating procedures.

Preference will be given to applicants residing in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and persons living with disabilities.


Job Purpose

To provide operational labour support as directed by supervisors to maintain a safe working environment and ensure efficient cargo handling and terminal operations.


Key Responsibilities (Position Outputs)

  • Cleaning of operational equipment (cranes, cabins, ship-to-shore crane windows, etc.)
  • Inspection of container conditions
  • Reefer container monitoring operations
  • Opening and closing rail wagon twist-locks
  • Loading, offloading, and slacking of cargo according to SOPs
  • Hooking and unhooking cargo
  • Tarping and untarping where applicable
  • Placing and removing dunnage materials
  • Cleaning operational areas including:
    • Rail trucks
    • Workshops and plant areas
    • Offices, sheds, and ablution facilities
  • Completing incident and accident reports
  • Identifying correct cargo handling equipment and gear


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience
