DEPARTMENTAL ASSISTANTS (X2) – PERMANENT POSITIONS

About the Role

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) invites applications for two (2) Departmental Assistants to provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the Investigations Department. The successful candidates will support Conventional and CTFL investigations through efficient coordination, reporting, and compliance-focused administration.


Key Responsibilities

Administrative & Secretarial Support

  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to officials.
  • Plan, coordinate, organise and record Investigations Unit meetings and appointments.
  • Compile agendas, prepare and distribute meeting packs, issue meeting notices, record minutes and resolutions.
  • Confirm quorum, manage attendance registers, and follow up on action lists.
  • Handle correspondence and take accurate messages for officials.
  • Maintain leave registers and performance records.

Investigations & Reporting Support

  • Quality-check submissions and memoranda for approval of Conventional and CTFL investigations.
  • Assist with drafting and managing subpoenas/summons and maintain related registers.
  • Quality-check Investigation Reports (Conventional and CTFL).
  • Maintain and update investigation case registers, detention notices, and release letters.
  • Capture and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual statistics (including SARS Customs Detention Notices).
  • Compile monthly MANCO performance reports, quarterly reports and the annual report.
  • Support target setting and performance appraisals for Inspectors.
  • Liaise with stakeholders regarding CTFL and Conventional investigations.
  • Prepare evidence for internal and external audits.

Financial, Procurement & Asset Administration

  • Monitor unit budget and APP/Operational Plan targets.
  • Obtain prior approvals for expenditure and ensure correct budget line items.
  • Manage stationery control, petty cash, and procurement approvals.
  • Assist with securing resources for officials and the division.
  • Manage assets and coordinate maintenance of equipment.

Travel, Events & Coordination

  • Arrange official travel and accommodation; obtain approvals and manage bookings.
  • Assist with travel and subsistence claims.
  • Coordinate client enquiries and related meetings.
  • Arrange team-building and special events for the division.
  • Facilitate unit activities related to Conventional investigations, market monitoring and CTFL investigations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: Matric plus a Diploma in Office Administration or Law
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years secretarial/legal assistance experience (public or private sector)
  • Training & Skills:
    • Computer literacy (MS Office Package)
    • Knowledge of the regulatory framework
